Vastus Medialis Oblique Exercises for Knee Pain

Vastus Medialis muscle is one of the four muscles forming the Quadriceps, which are placed just above the knee. Just like the other three muscles comprisingquadriceps, VMO works in extending and maintaining the stability of the knee joint. People with

VMO muscle weakness often complains of osteoarthritis, patellofemoral syndrome, frequent knee injuries and other problems of knee joint.

 VMO strengthening helps in quick recovery of the patients with knee replacement surgeries and ligament injuries.

Here are some simple ways and techniques to strengthen the VMO muscles at home.

1.     VMO isometric

2.     Straight leg raises with Knee Squeeze

3.     VMO Leg Extension

4.     Heel Drops

5.     Knee extension with weight

6.     Standing active resisted terminal knee extension exercise

 

All these exercises need to be performed 10 times with a hold of 10 seconds, 2 – 3 sets a day.

 

People with previous injuries in any body part or with conditions related to lower back like PIVD, spondylitis, etc. or any other major problem should not perform these exercises without consulting their doctors.

 

In this video, Dr. Sunil Tank has demonstrated and taught us some basic and easy-to-do exercises which can be performed at home without any need of extra equipment.
